Knole House and Deer Park

Knole Park is less than a mile from us and occupies much of the south of Sevenoaks between the town and the ridge above the Weald of Kent. The house is situated at the highest point of the greensand hill on which Sevenoaks is located. Sevenoaks Town and the North Downs can be seen from the front of the house, and at the back of the estate the road passes just above Riverhill House and Gardens (Himalayan Gardens), St Julian's Country Club and Redlands (home of the Sevenoaks Riding School). Redlands is the start and finish points for the annual charity horse ride around Knole Park in aid of Bradbourne RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association).

The house is one of the first acquired by the National Trust and is still home to Lord Sackville and his family. Generally it is open to the public but access is restricted during these troubled times.

The deer park is open during daylight hours and is free to access apart from the golf course which is clearly labelled. Please do not feed the deer as they are wild animals and if they become used to people they will pester for food, then they can become dangerous and all too often have to be destroyed. The deer you will see are mostly Fallow Deer, but there is also a herd of the smaller and more timid Sika Deer.

There are several entrances to the park. Vehicle access is via the main entrance at the top of Sevenoaks High Street. By foot a path (webs alley) joins the main Sevenoaks car parks to the north side of the park. There are many other foot entrances around the perimeter including the 'hole in the wall' featured at the end of the video. This is our nearest entrance.
